Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Welcome new and returning students to Hmong College Prep Academy for the 2016-2017 school year!

The 2015-2016 school term was a landmark year at HCPA.

MCA growth: Simply outstanding! The outcome of your hard work and dedication, students in fifth through eighth, tenth and eleventh grades all witnessed double-digit increases in math and reading (less sixth grade math) versus the 2014-2015 school year.

Graduation rate: Last June, 85% of the 2016 class graduated and 100% of those students were accepted to a college or university. In addition, 2016 graduates totaled nearly $600,000 in scholarships and grants.

Longevity’s affect on graduation rates: One thing is for sure. The longer a student is at HCPA, the higher chance they have to graduate on time. Last year, the graduation rate for students who had been with us since their ninth grade was 92%.

As we start our new year, I’d like to present the new and exciting improvements made by our staff and administration since last year.

HCPA had a terrific summer session ever! With over 400 participants, academic progress was made in each grade level…students had a lot of fun too.

A number of improvements were made inside our building including new carpet in a number of elementary and middle school classrooms.

To keep HCPA on the leading edge, a number of technological improvements took place.

A new Chromebook Initiative-This year, 6-12th grade students will be allowed to bring their laptop home

Hot spot technology that enables students to have offsite internet access.

This year, we will be initiating a voluntary $50 technology fee for insurance on Chromebook

With these changes and enhancements, our aspiration for HCPA remains the same—to become a “world class school” that encompasses academic excellence and is recognized as an innovative academic institution.  To get to that point, we will continue to:

Set high learning expectations for all students to succeed—no excuses

Raise the achievement of all students with personalized and engaging instruction across all content areas utilizing our College Prep program

Emphasize innovative learning strategies that integrate the use of supportive technologies, inquiry, and higher order thinking skills

Offer our students challenging college preparatory, honor and Advanced Placement courses

Ensure all students graduate on time to pursue higher education and career opportunities

Infuse Hmong and world cultures into the daily curriculum

Ensure all students continue to be culturally and educationally proficient in relationships with students and families of varied backgrounds

In closing, please know I am honored, humbled and excited to serve as the Superintendent of Hmong College Prep Academy. I look forward to meeting and working with all students and parents to fulfill the promise and potential of our school district.
