Spring Semester Test Dates

think-test-and-do-your-bestSpring 2014 testing is here!  These tests are essential for our school.  Although no longer a requirement for graduation, these tests count towards student achievement, MMR (state growth calculation), AYP (state adequate yearly progress calculation).

MCA Reading Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 10 - April 22 & 23
MCA Math Grade 11 – April 22 & 23
MCA Math Grades 3, 4, 5 – April 28 through May 1
MCA Math Grades 6, 7, 8 – May 6 & 7
MCA Science Grade 5 – May 8
MCA Science Grade 8 – May 13
MCA Science High School – May 14
MAP Reading & Math Grades K through 5 – May 12 through May 19
MAP Reading & Math Grades 6, 7, 8 – May 12 through May 21
MAP Reading & Math High School – May 20 through May 27

Seniors!  In order to graduate, you must pass all courses, earn required credits AND do the following:

1) Take ACT and/or Accuplacer and report results to Ms. Cecelia Lee and/or Mr. Ka Vang no later than May 23, 2014.
2) Meet or exceed MAP Reading & Math goals as determined by Fall 2013 assessments.

PTO Sponsored Garage Sale May 16

garage saleThe PTO is sponsoring a RUMMAGE SALE on Friday, May 16 from 5pm – 7:30pm.  Buy a table (proceeds go to the PTO fund for students) and whatever you sell, you keep the profit.  Student Committees will be selling concessions, including Hmong food and treats.  If you have questions, contact Wendy Andersen (wandersen@hmongacademy.org/651-209-8002 x8253).

Pages and PJ’s – Parent Academy April 10

On Thursday, April 10, HCPA will host a Pages and PJ Family Reading Night from 5pm – 7pm.  That evening, students can come dressed in their pajamas, bring a stuffed animal and take part in a variety of fun activities like:  taking a picture with favorite book characters, take an adventurous book walk, make your own bookmark and receive awesome books for free!

No School: Spring Break 3/31 – 4/4

spring breakSpring Break is March 31 through April 4.  Students and teachers return on Monday, April 7.  The Main Office will be open throughout the break from 7am – 4pm.

What are you going to do over Spring Break?  Read, rest, go to the park, see a movie, go to the mall, visit your family and friends, read a book, act in a play, plant flowers, learn to drive, celebrate a birthday?

Be safe, be happy and we will see you on April 7 – B day.

HCPA Choir Receives Superior Rating

Community Service Learning + Ronald McDonald House

Mr. Zajkowski’s Community Service Learning class prepared, cooked and served meals to the families living in the Ronald McDonald House.

The students fundraised $251 to purchase food so they could feed the families living in the home.  From the students, “Thank you very much for donating money to help make our project possible! We appreciated your help and used the $251 to cook Rice, Stir Fry, Fried Chicken and bought soda for the patient’s parents.

Staff & Student Talent Show Fundraiser 3/21

Join us on Friday, March 21 from 6pm-8pm as our teachers, staff and students show off their skills in the Chiyou Auditorium.  This event is $3/person and proceeds go towards the 2014 Prom led by Ms. Kathie Smith and her 2014 Prom Committee.
